Vandals damaged the water connection and other property at the government secondary school building at Kasarvarnem-Pernem, prompting angry reactions from parents and residents.
According to sources, the incident came to light on Monday when staff noticed some window panes facing the road shattered and the water connection damaged.
On learning about the incident, the ADEI of Pernem visited the school to inspect the damage, while a Mopa police team conducted the panchanama at the site.
Kasarvarnem Sarpanch Mohan Parab, panchayat members, PTA President Pandurang Naik, Goa Pradesh Congress Secretary Adv Jitendra Gaonkar, and social activists Uday Mahale and Prakash Kinlekar visited the school to assess the situation.
Local residents and parents have condemned the vandalism of the educational institution, terming it highly objectionable. They have demanded that the Mopa Police conduct a thorough investigation and take strict action against the culprits.
They have also urged authorities to implement necessary security measures within the school premises. Mopa police is investigating the incident.
Condemning the incident, Congress General Secretary Adv Jitendra Gaonkar has demanded immediate legal action against the miscreants and arrest of those involved.
Stating that vandalism in the premises of a government school is a serious matter, Gaonkar sought to know what exactly had been achieved by damaging government property.
The parents pointed out the need to repair the power lines in the school premises and to properly store school supplies and other items. They have also demanded that relevant agencies pay serious attention to the safety and cleanliness of the school premises.
