The government will finally unveil the solar energy policy for the state by November-end, but there was no clarity whether the amendments mooted in the policy will be brought under public domain again or will be directly incorporated for implementation.
Issues concerning solar energy and its production in the State figured prominently at the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) when members of the public sought to know why the government is not giving a boost to solar power generation in the State. Participants demanded further that the State lay the ground for production of solar power right in the State.
President of United Goans Foundation Dr Ashish Kamat demanded to know whether the government is going slow in encouraging solar power generation because of the vested interests of crony capitalism.
He pointed out these crony capitalists have been importing coal to run their thermal plants at the cost of the health of Goan people, while calling upon the JERC to direct the government to give utmost priority for solar power generation.
Upon a query raised by JERC Chairman Goel, Chief Electrical Engineer N N Reddy said the government has almost finalized the solar energy policy and the same will be unveiled by November-end.
