Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister Vijai Sardesai has said the coalition government is committed to maintain status quo on the Medium of Instruction (MoI) policy come what may in the interest of the common man.
He went on say that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has even sacrificed his ties with the “parent organisation” to maintain the status quo on MoI, which aims at balancing the requirements of the common man vis-Ã -vis English education and also protect the mother tongue.
“The coalition government has made sacrifices on the MoI policy with a clear stand that the status quo should not be disturbed. The government has even faced brickbats over its stand on the MoI, but we are convinced that the present MoI policy meets the requirements of all sections of society,” Sardesai said, while addressing a programme at the Housing Board to mark the inauguration of the second phase of the Luis Alex Cardozo Secondary School project under late MP Shantaram Naik’s MPLAD scheme.
Making it loud and clear that there will be no change in the MoI status, the TCP Minister said the MoI policy has been ratified by the Coordination Committee, comprising of members of the coalition partners, which was formed to run the coalition government.
Saying that the government has put a stop to the opening of new schools in the interest of the common man, Sardesai said, “Even I had approached the Chief Minister for permission to open a school in Fatorda, but the Chief Minister has turned down the request. Big time people are waiting to open new schools, but the government is committed to protect the interest of the common man.”
In his address, Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar said that the Phase II of the Luis Alex Cardozo secondary school project was sanctioned by his predecessor and offered all possible help to the school.
Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco made a plea to the Rajya Sabha MP and the TCP Minister to ensure that the school gets the illumination and the sliding windows. He also appealed to the government to renovate the Balwadi in the Housing Board, which has been craving for attention over the years.
Former MLA Luis Alex Cardozo said the Rs 22 lakh project was sanctioned by the former Rajya Sabha MP, even as he made a plea to the incumbent MP to sanction funds for the school illumination and other minor works.
