Govt criticised over assault of locals for complaining about loud music

PANAJI

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has condemned the attack by club operators on the Anjuna locals who went to the police station to complain about loud music and alleged police-club operators’ nexus.

“I strongly condemn this high-handedness. It appears that the police force in Goa is hypothecated to nightclubs by the BJP dovernment. Will the Director General of Police take note and act?” questioned Alemao, in a media statement issued on Saturday.

He also slammed the BJP government for patronising illegal activities in the State stating that the assault has once again brought to the fore high-handedness of outsiders against the local Goans.

“There is a mafia operating in the coastal belt with the blessings of the BJP government. This mafia is a threat to Goa and Goans,” he alleged.

He further stated that law enforcement authorities are in connivance with the club operators, as instead of taking suo-motu action against the loud music, the residents are forced to approach the police to lodge a complaint.

“The lawlessness in the State has already shown its adverse effects with a steep decline of 65 percent in foreign tourists in Goa,” he stated blaming the government for this scenario and urging Director General of Police Jaspal Singh to act on the prevailing issues without political pressure.
