State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday said that 2024 will be observed as the Year of Health and Fitness during which fitness will be “vigorously” promoted advocating for healthy lifestyles and encouraging healthier lifestyle choices.
The decision Rane indicated was due to the substantial increase in lifestyle diseases which claim lives of relatively young individuals which he said is a source of deep concern.
“Witnessing these illnesses claim the lives of relatively young individuals and profoundly affecting their families is distressing,” Rane said in a post on micro-blogging site ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) while justifying the decision to designate 2024 as the Year of Health and Fitness.
“Our primary focus will be on vigorously promoting fitness, advocating for healthy lifestyles, and encouraging better lifestyle choices. We are undertaking a range of initiatives, including promoting the incorporation of Sri Anna millet into diets and establishing impactful collaborations to advance health and wellness,” the further said in the post.
“Let us collectively strive for improved fitness and good health throughout 2024! #TheGoaMode,” Rane’s X post said.
