To discourage registration of high-end vehicles outside the State to evade high taxation, the State government has notified a new rationalized tax slab for vehicles costing over Rs 1 crore.
The Goa Governor has promulgated ‘The Goa Motor Vehicles Tax (Amendment) Ordinance, 2023’ and the same has been notified by the government. The State Cabinet had last month granted its approval to the amendment.
According to the new tax slab, the tax on high-end vehicles costing over Rs 1 crore has been capped to a maximum of Rs 15 lakh. Similarly, the tax on high-end motorcycles above Rs 3 lakh has been capped to a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh.
Vehicles below Rs 10 lakh will pay a 9 per cent road tax, while those below Rs 20 lakh will pay a 12 per cent tax. Vehicles between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 1 crore will pay 15 per cent, and those between Rs 2 crore and Rs 4 crore will have to pay a maximum of Rs 15 lakh as road tax.
Further the Motor cycles/Motor scooter/Auto rickshaw irrespective of its horsepower, with cost below Rs 1.50 lakhs will pay 9 per cent of the cost of the vehicle as tax, while motor vehicles above Rs 1.50 lakh but not exceed Rs 3 lakhs, will have to shell out 12 per cent cost of the vehicle towards the tax.
The Motorcycle, irrespective of its horsepower, whose cost exceeds Rs. 3 lakhs, will pay 15 per cent of the cost of the motorcycle, provided maximum total tax is Rs. 1.5 lakhs.
Also, Tricycle for every 25 kgs., weight or part thereof will be charged Rs 150 and construction Equipment Vehicles will be charged 9 per cent of the cost of the vehicle as one time tax.
The amendment has also simplified the tax payments for rental cars and two-wheelers, which is currently payable annually, by converting it into a one-time payment at the time of registration of new vehicle.
