Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said that the government has envisioned Goa becoming one of the top 25 startup destinations in the world by 2025 with the host of proactive steps initiated by the State IT department.
He further said the IT sector should exploit the new avenues and opportunities that will be created in Goa after the commissioning of the Mopa airport, saying: “Goa will be the most sought-after logistic hub in India after Mopa airport takes off."
Addressing the valedictory function of the day-long Goa’s first-ever Developers Summit at the Ravindra Bhavan on Sunday, the Chief Minister said Goa has the most promising IT and startup policy that will help create the start-up culture and resultant employment opportunities in the State.
Saying that people sometimes prefer the metro culture as they look for a startup culture in the country, the Chief Minister said: “We can see the startup culture right here in Goa. We will focus our efforts to inculcate the culture of modern engineering. We will provide all the facilities to give exposure to the IT faculty in Goa.”
Stating that Goa has a dynamic startup promotion cell working tirelessly to give a big push to the startup growth in the State, the Chief Minister said the Mopa airport can be a game changer for the IT industry. “With Mopa airport coming up, and the road connectivity to the airport to be in place soon, Goa will be the most sought-after logistic hub of India, providing avenues and opportunities to the IT sector."
Saying that his government has set an agenda for skill development for gainful employment, the incorporation of the latest technology in IT, and enhancing employment opportunities, the Chief Minister said the first-ever Developers Summit has been organised in association with the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry to give the professionals the idea in the line of the technology.
“We want the professional to understand the opportunities that exist in the IT sector so that Goa can lead in this space. Even corporates are not aware of how to approach the project vis-Ã -vis the latest technology,” he said, adding only exposure will help make Goa become a top IT hub.
“We have launched the IT Directorate that will help find the list of companies operating in Goa, including the IT companies and startups. This will help you to better understand the IT landscape in Goa," he said.
