The bypoll for the ZP for the Cortalim constituency went on peacefully on Sunday but the event witnessed a low voter count.
While the elections began at 8 am at the 22 polling stations in different areas of the constituency including Bogmalo, Cortalim, Quelosssim, Velsao and Cansaulim, the first half of the day saw a poor turnout.
While the voter turnout at 10 am was 10.46%, it rose to 22.81% at 12 am, 31.61 % at 2 pm and finally ended at 45.07% by 5 pm.
There was a huge posse of police officials deployed at all polling stations and voters were also seen in queues wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.
The elections will be a four-cornered contest between Merciana Vas, wife of the Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, Congress candidate Valent Barbosa, Revolutionary Goans Party's Lesley Gama and AAP candidate John D'Sa reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
