With the migrant issue raising its head again in the village, the Camurlim gram sabha on Sunday resolved to create data on the number of migrants staying in the village.
The gram sabha chaired by sarpanch Basil Fernandes has further resolved to mandate the landlords to pay one month’s rent to the panchayat for leasing out their premises to the migrants.
The sarpanch told the media after the meeting that gram sabha members raised the issue of migrants staying in the village and the steps taken to get them registered with the panchayat. The members insisted that the panchayat have read the record of the number of migrants inhabiting the village, their place of residence and their native place.
He further informed that the panchayat would also make the landlords leasing out their premises to the tenants to pay one month's rent to the panchayat.
