PORVORIM
People of Reis Magos, Nerul, Pilerne-Marra and Sangolda turned out in small numbers to exercise their franchise for the Reis Magos ZP bypoll.
During the morning, the villages did not witness a rush at the polling stations, but the afternoon saw voters trickling in.
In the evening, long queues of voters were seen again at some of the polling stations.
Polling by and large was peaceful without any major untoward incident. There was a substantial deployment of police force at all the polling stations to ensure law and order.
Saligao MLA Kedar Naik cast his vote at 10.30 am at the Betim polling booth and expressed that there has been a poor turnout of the people.
As per the information he received from the office of the election, the voter turnout at Reis Magos from 8 am to 2 pm was only 25.79%, which is very low in comparison to the Assembly election. "Every election has got its own value. The voters do not appear much interested in the ZP election. Even then, the people should vote wisely and elect the candidate who will work sincerely for their constituency. Considering the voter turnout, I am confident that candidate Sandeep Bandodkar supported by BJP will win with a substantial margin," said Naik.
