Stating that collapse of British travel firm Thomas Cook will have an impact on the tourism industry in the State, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said government is on the lookout for tie-ups with other international travel firms to overcome the impact.

“Off course when a major company shut down we will have an impact here. We are trying to tie-up with other international firms to overcome the impact”, said Sawant.

In 2018 during tourist season, Thomas Cook flew in around 2000 tourists to Goa every week through their charter flights. For the upcoming season this year, 17,500 British travellers had already confirmed their booking in Goa with the company.

GST: CM said compensation from centre for next 2 years will help state to cope with 26% deficit in revenue receipts due to GST. He also said Goa along with other states have demanded GST compensation for more 3 years with the Centre.

GMC recruitment: Reiterating his stand that all class C posts will be filled thorough staff selection commission Sawant said GMC job recruitment issue will be solved after discussions with Health Minister. He said, recruitment process is going on for only minor posts advertised earlier in three departments.
