Govt going ahead despite challenges to scheme: Sawant

MARGAO

Saying that the Mhaje Ghar scheme is meant to benefit Goans irrespective of their caste and creed, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said the government is going ahead with the one-time regularisation of houses on government and comunidade land despite challenge from certain quarters to the scheme.

The Chief Minister further said that the government has decided to streamline issuance of house repair certificates and house bifurcation certificates within three and seven days respectively.

Launching the Mhaje ghar scheme in Cuncolim on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said any Goan who had built house prior to February 28, 2014 on government and comunidade land will benefit from the scheme. “The scheme is nothing, but one-time regularisation of the houses. We have come across voices bracing up to challenge the scheme, but the government is going ahead with the scheme”, he said.

The Chief Minister said that the government will roll out camps across the Panchayat and Municipal areas to facilitate people to obtain their residence certificates prior to 2014. “On the spot residence certificates will be issued to the people at these special camps. This will facilitate the people to apply for the Mhaje Ghar scheme”, he added.

Speaking further, the Chief Minister said his government has taken steps to streamline issuance of house repair certificates and house bifurcation certificates within specific time frame.

“Henceforth, people will have to apply for a house repair certificate by attaching house tax receipt, estimated cost and a certificate from an engineer. The Certificate will be issued within three days. No Panch or Councillor will be able to scuttle issuance of certificate”, he added.

He said the house separation certificate will help two or more brothers staying in one house to apply for NOC for separate light, water and sanitation facilities.  “This will reduce the disputes between brothers and pave way for peace”, he added.
