Focus on filling manpower gaps, upgrading facilities, and expanding specialised care

The Goa government has approved a raft of measures to strengthen healthcare delivery across the State.
Emergency and trauma centres will be upgraded, new ambulances inducted, and additional doctors, nurses, technicians and multi‑task staff recruited. Casualty medical officers will be appointed to improve emergency response.
The decisions were taken at a comprehensive review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, Ministers Mauvin Gudinho, Digambar Kamat, Ramesh Tawadkar and Subhash Phaldesai attended, along with the Chief Secretary, Health Secretary, Director of Health Services and other senior officials.
Another decision at the meeting dealt with the sub‑district hospitals which will get immediate infrastructure upgrades, with senior officials ordered to conduct site visits.
The sub‑district hospital at Sanguem will be inaugurated soon where a dialysis unit will be set up. Medical officers will be provided office vehicles and essential equipment to improve efficiency.
Sawant said the government is committed to accessible and quality healthcare for every citizen and stressed that the focus is on filling manpower gaps, upgrading infrastructure and expanding specialised care across districts.
The meeting signals the government’s urgency in addressing healthcare challenges. Officials said the measures will help bridge existing gaps and ensure timely service delivery across the State.
