The Union Minister stated that the Centre wants to reintroduce the detention policy with support from state governments. Javadekar added, "In the proposed bill we have given states an option to hold exams for Class 5 and Class 8 students in March, those who fail the exam will be given a chance to retake the exam in May. Those unable to pass both sets of exams will be detained".
Nearly 25 students are said to have given a nod to the proposed bill, according to an India.com report.
Javadekar said that the education ministers of all states in a meeting, have jointly decided that students should not be allowed to reach Class 9 without first clearing Class 5 and Class 8 examinations. The Union HRD minister also added that students have been affected by the no detention policy.
The minister said "The policy of the previous government was to take all students along, as there were no examinations many government schools became mid-day meal school where students came only for the meals offered by the schools."
NEET paper to be same for
all languages
KOLKATA: Javadekar has said that question papers in vernacular languages for NEET will be mere translation of the question papers in English.
Javadekar was replying to a question about a recent complaint that students appearing for medical entrance examination in vernacular languages this year had faced tougher questions than the ones set in English and Hindi.
