Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said science teachers from schools across the State must participate in workshops at the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), to inculcate the love for science and research among students.

Sawant, who was attending the 23rd Foundation Day celebrations at NCPOR in Sada-Vasco, said he had an amazing experience to visit the Antarctic area and even touch penguins through virtual reality technology at the NCPOR.

“This is my first visit here and I met the director, scientist and researchers of the institute. I am extremely happy and I feel all Goans, especially science and nature lovers and persons who have interest in research or plan to pursue science, must visit the NCPOR at least once,” said Sawant.

“Science teachers must definitely visit the NCPOR so as to inculcate the feeling of research of polar areas in the mind of students and I have already requested the NCPOR to conduct a workshop for all secondary and higher secondary science teachers during the vacation.”

The chief minister said NCPOR is a big institution in Goa and the benefit of this institution can be passed on to schools and teachers, and subsequently passed on to students.

“NCPOR is doing great research and I personally had a wonderful experience of the Antartica research mission through virtual reality technology. I personally visited the Antarctic region and even touched a penguin and saw the terrain and stones of Antartica.”

“I even saw the research centres in Antarctica area in both the seasons of summer and winter through the virtual reality technology. I cannot imagine that this is the only such centre across the country, and we have to ensure that Goans can benefit to become good researchers.”
