The State government has notified the Goa Staff Selection Commission Act, 2019, which will henceforth be followed to conduct all recruitment processes for intake on government rolls in ‘Group C’ posts.
The notification of the GSSC Act, 2019, and all its provisions came into force from Wednesday, the notification issued said.
“The Government of Goa hereby appoints the 18th day of September, 2019 as the date on which the provisions of the said Act shall come into force,” the notification said.
The move comes midway into the process commenced by the Goa Medical College and Hospital to fill some 1000-plus positions of various categories all of which come under the ‘Group C’ category and amid suspense over whether the premier health institution will itself go ahead with it or the GSSC will step in.
Wednesday was the last day for job-seekers to file applications at GMC and some 25,000 had done so.
More than a week ago, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had also issued a note to all Secretaries and heads of department to withdraw all recruitment advertisements, citing that the GSSC Bill had been passed by the Goa legislative assembly and all future government recruitment would be routed through it.
Sawant’s sudden move gave rise to several questions
and what its impact would be on the already in motion recruitment process of the GMC.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, meanwhile went on record that Sawant’s decision
was in the interest of the State and that he has asserted that the GMC process will continue unaffected.
