The State government is stepping up efforts to promote renewable energy by focusing on solar power, biogas, and water heating projects across the State.

This decision was made during a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Senior officials from the Finance and Home departments, as well as the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA), were present.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the meeting decided to increase financial support for setting up biogas units, solar water heaters, and solar systems in government buildings.

The meeting also approved a plan for setting up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Under the model, the government will bear 50 per cent of the cost, while the remaining 50 per cent will be paid by private developers.

As part of the PM Suryaghar Yojana, it was decided to ensure proper safety measures and reliable annual maintenance contracts (AMCs) for consumers under the rooftop solar scheme.

The CMO added that the meeting also agreed to expand the use of solar-powered street lights in both rural and urban areas to encourage the use of green energy.

It was also decided to convert GEDA from a society into a company to improve its efficiency and operations.
