The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs has served a notice to the Goa Cricket Associations (GCA) for failing to utilise the land allotted to them to construct an international cricket stadium at Dhargalim.
“They have been asked to respond to the notice within 15 days and if no reasonable reply is given for keeping the land idle for so long, the sports department will take back the land,” Sports Minister Govind Gaude said on Monday.
Gaude side-stepped the controversy over the tussle between Dhargalim and Bicholim to be the site for the cricket stadium saying the agreement between the Sports Department and the GCA is for the Dhargal land where no activity has taken place for so many years.
“No work is underway there as yet. So we have issued them the notice,” Minister Gaude said, adding that if the response does not give adequate reasoning for delay in starting work or conditions in the agreement are violated, the land will be reverted.
Sports code compliance mandatory for grants: Sports Minister
PANAJI: Sports Minister Govind Gaude said grants to sports associations will be withheld if they fail to comply with the ‘Sports Code’ notified by the Centre.
Gaude said there are some sports associations where internal politics and factional tussles for power have ruined the administration of the sport and the prospects of the players.
“We have noticed this and it must stop. Enforcement of the sports code is very important and the department has been corresponding through emails asking them to obey it. If they fail to do so, their funds will be withheld,” Gaude.
