MARGAO
Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat on Friday said the government should at least have a look at the Goa Vision 2035 document prepared by Goa Golden Jubilee Development Council which was headed by eminent scientist, Dr Raghunath Mashelkar in the interest of the State and its people.
Speaking on the sidelines of the award presentation function organised by the Margao Municipal Council to felicitate students of the city schools scoring highest marks in social science subject, Kamat said the Goa Vision 2035 document would have helped the government how to go about in taking Goa forward in the next one decade. “Apart from Dr Raghunath Mashelkar, who had headed the Council at its chairman, the Council had other eminent personalities, including Dr Anil Kakodkar, Architect Charles Correia, Prof Madhav Gadgil, Dr P S Ramani and others. Since they had all given their inputs to formulate the Goa Vision 2035 document, I think the government should at least have a look at the document in the interest of Goa,” Kamat said, adding that the Vision Document had envisaged building an affluent Goa by leveraging “virtuous knowledge cycle” by creating “high value addition jobs of tomorrow” in the industry and services sector and help sustain the expected higher growth rate of economy.
Earlier, addressing the students at the award presentation function at the MMC hall, Kamat urged the students to emulate personalities such as Dr Raghunath Mashelkar, who rose to become an eminent scientist from a humble beginning.
He also made a fervent plea to the student community to never forget the sacrifices made by their parents in building their academic career.
Around 55 students from the city-based schools were honoured at the hands of the Opposition leader as well as acting MMC Chairperson Tito Cardozo and councillors on the occasion.
