A Congress delegation went to the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Tuesday and took up the matter of a delay in payment of pension and salaries to former and present council staff respectively.
Following a meeting with the MMC chairperson and chief officer, Nitin Chopdekar claimed that the Council had failed to adhere to timelines to clear dues of former employees and had got into recovery issues with oil companies who were owing considerable amounts to the Council. Elvis Gomes, who himself was the chief officer of MMC in the past, criticised the BJP MLAs representing Mormugao taluka in the assembly of having miserably failed to assist the Council in resolving its financial issues.
