Xeldem village witnessed a remarkable display of environmental consciousness as many of enthusiastic volunteers, organizations, and local authorities came together for a grand tree plantation drive aimed at combating climate change and restoring the region’s natural beauty.
The event, held recently, marked a significant step forward in the community’s efforts to address environmental challenges and foster a sustainable future.
The tree plantation drive, organized by Green Goa Initiative along with Shree Chandreshwar Bhutnath Saustan, kicked off early in the morning at Xeldem. Under the bright morning sun, individuals of all ages and backgrounds gathered with shovels, saplings, and unwavering determination to make a difference. With a spirit of camaraderie, they embarked on their mission to plant 600 saplings of diverse native tree species, each selected to thrive in the local ecosystem.
“To save our village from climate change effects such as recent floodings in Goa and to fight Heat wave, we are conducting this massive tree plantation drive,” said Aditya Dessai, who was the organiser of the event.
As the tree plantation drive progressed, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement and a palpable sense of purpose. Local people, NGOs, businesses, and concerned citizens stood shoulder to shoulder, digging holes and gently placing the saplings into the ground, symbolizing the community’s commitment to preserving the environment.
The event was not just about planting trees but also about raising awareness.
