A metal sheet which has been stuck on a branch has endangered pedestrians opposite the new Porvorim market complex.
Following gusty winds, some corrugated metal sheets affixed on the new market complex building located near Hanuman temple at Porvorim got blown off a few days ago.
Some metal sheets fell down in the premises of the new market complex while one metal sheet got stuck on the branch of a tree opposite the market complex.
This metal sheet has been resting precariously on the branch since the last few days and there are fears that if the metal sheet falls on pedestrians or two-wheeler riders, it could lead to a major injury.
Incidentally, neither the Goa Housing Board (GHB) nor the Penha de Franca panchayat has done removed the metal sheet even though the matter was brought to their notice.
When contacted, GHB officials said they are aware that the metal sheet is stuck on the branch and they have advised the staff concerned to remove it.
“It will be removed within a day to two,” said the official.
Sitaram Naik, a resident of Porvorim, said metal sheets blowing off from the new market building raises doubt about the quality of the construction work.
“When the building becomes old, it is doubtful if there will be any metal sheet left on this building. It is almost two years since this market complex was inaugurated and yet the GHB has not been able to auction the shops in the new market building,” said Naik.
