Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday told the Legislative Assembly that the government would acquire 100 new buses for the Kadamba Transport Corporation.
“We are planning to give financial support to KTCL to acquire more 100 buses. So far, there are 545 buses with the corporation,” Parrikar said.
The chief minister was responding to demands for grants in the PWD and Transport departments in absence of the PWD Minister, Sudhin Dhavlikar. Parrikar said that nobody has provided financial support to KTCL as much as his government did, but accepted that some buses were not in good condition.
He further said that in the eight years the corporation had a fleet of only 250 buses, which has almost doubled.
On the accident front, the CM said the government was trying its best to bring the rate of mishaps down.
“We have registered almost 22 percent drop in accidents in the State but we need to do better,” Parrikar said but expressed concern on mishaps happening at nights.
The chief minister said that it has become a habit to blame the government on water supply. “It’s a thankless job and however hard we may try, we won’t be able to give 100 percent water supply,” he said.
“But we are trying to give adequate supply to Goans,” he added.
He said the State has made a lot of progress on the water front and in the near future, the government will be able to provide enough water to the people of Goa.
Parrikar informed the House that enough funds were provided for construction and maintenance of roads in the State. He also said PWD has already started work on filling up of potholes in the State.
The CM said the State has received a lot of funds from the Centre for the widening and four and six laning of national highways.
Parrikar said the RND had procured three ferries last year and this year another three ferries will be purchased.
