Applications to establish new Higher Secondary Schools in the upcoming 2023-24 academic year are being processed by the education department case by case, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said in the Goa legislative assembly.
Sawant also disclosed that the proposals of those institutions which had applied to set up such schools in 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 have already been processed and the government has no plan to reconsider them.
“Processing of applications to open new Higher Secondary Schools in 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 was closed in those respective academic years either by approving or rejecting them,” Sawant said.
The chief minister, who also holds the education portfolio, said the State is implementing the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020) from the 2023-24 academic year in a phased manner in school education.
As for Higher Education, the NEP implementation had already begun, again in a phased manner, he said, adding that in schools the implementation of academic structure, including the National Curriculum Framework, will begin from June when the 2023-24 academic year commences.
According to Sawant, State-level seminars and orientation was conducted for heads of all government and aided institutions at five different centres -- Curchorem, Margao, Sanquelim, Panaji and Ponda.
These seminars were held in January where the heads of Institutions and representatives of the managements of aided schools attended, he said.
