The State government has decided to hand over the probe into the death of Bismarque Dias to the Crime Branch, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said on Thursday.
Speaking to media, Parsekar said he took the decision in a bid to clear doubts that the investigations into the case are being deliberately scuttled.
“In order that there is no doubt over how the case is being handled, we have decided to hand it over to the Brime Branch,” Parsekar told reporters.
He said that right from the day the body was found, he had asked the police if any foul play was involved given the fact that Bismarque was an activist and faced risk.
“However since then, there have been several demands and accusations in the media that the case should be handed over to the Crime Branch. Let there be no reason for anyone to believe that the case is being scuttled,” Parsekar said, adding the demand to transfer the case did not come from the family but from other activists and media.
“The family of Bismarque, including his brother called on me and sought that the viscera report was brought back quickly. We have even sent a messenger to ensure that the report is compiled quickly,” Parsekar told media persons.
Parsekar said right from the beginning he had asked the police to probe the foul play angle but the report submitted by the police to him indicated no foul play. The order transferring the case to the Crime Branch is expected to be issued shortly.
