MAPUSA
The Aldona panchayat on Sunday told the gram sabha that a proposal has been sent to the State government to prepare a plan for construction of a new market building in the village.
On the request of villagers, the panchayat has also decided to write to the deputy collector to allow Aldona buses to use the old route to enter the Mapusa town.
“The church fabrica has given us a go ahead to prepare the planning of the new market building in the village. Accordingly, we have written to the government to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) of the new market which will then be placed before the fabrica,” said Ashwin D’Souza, Sarpanch of Aldona.
A local Devidas Panjikar had raised the issue of Aldona market during the gram sabha meeting.
Another local, Jose Rodrigues said that for the last several years the buses on the Aldona-Mapusa route have been using the highway to enter the Mapusa town and requested the panchayat to restore the old route. “It would be of immense help to us if the old route is restored and the buses,” Rodrigues said.
The sarpanch informed that the deputy collector had issued the order directing the buses to operate from the highway.
“We will write to the deputy collector to restore the old route so that buses could enter the Mapusa town through the internal road instead of the highway,” he said.
