Stating that efforts would be made to facilitate jobs for Goans, IT Minister Rohan Khaunte said there will be recruitment assistance and benefits to companies to hire candidates at the company level.

“When passing out at the final year, the companies will recruit these graduates,” said Khaunte.

“The government will provide a salary subsidy of around Rs 10,000 to the IT companies,” he added.

“We are doing this so that Goans can get jobs,” said Khaunte, while adding, “the government is looking into skilling graduates and other streams into IT to match with the requirement of the talent that would be needed by the industry.”

“We will also maintain the ethos and culture of the State while ensuring that employment is created,” he said.

Stating there would be no reservations for Chimbel locals at the proposed IT Park, Khaunte instead said locals would be imparted training to make them ready for the IT sector.

Replying to a query from The Goan whether certain quota would be reserved for locals, Khaunte said the government cannot provide quota for jobs in private industries.

“Instead, we will undertake skill upgradation programmes to make people employment ready. And priority will be given to Chimbelkars. In Porvorim also, locals will be given priority for jobs as well as self-employment opportunities,” he stated.

“Not only youth, but housewives and seniors citizens will be imparted digital training,” Khaunte informed.

Asked when would such training start for the locals, Khaunte said it would

begin once the infrastructure is in place.
