Govt to set up high voltage substation at Saligao

Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar said govt has decided to set up an extra high voltage substation at Saligao in an area of about 13,000 sq mtrs of Saligao comunidade land as well as underground cable, to resolve public grievances over power supply in Saligao and adjoining areas.

He was speaking at a meeting convened by Housing Board Minister and Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar at the Saligao Panchayat hall to attend to grievances regarding power supply problems in Saligao constituency.
"It has also been decided to lay an underground cable from Porvorim to Saligao to ensure that Saligao gets uninterrupted power. Electricity-related issues like replacing old transformers, upgrading transformers, replacing old conductors and old LT lines of Saligao constituency will be resolved within one-and-half years," he assured.
Speaking at the meeting, Saligao MLA Salgaonkar said the residents of Saligao constituency face power problems, adding that the problem is severe during monsoon.
"The water supply to the villages is affected badly due to power failure. To understand these problems, a meeting of panchas from six panchayats in the constituency was convened," said Salgaonkar. Panchas of Nerul, Reis Magos, Pilerne, Sangolda, Gurim and Saligao put forth grievances regarding power supply.

 To discuss issue of 4-arm lamps
with CM, says Madkaikar
PORVORIM: Stating that ‘4-arm lights' installed by the tourism and other departments in the State are yet to be handed over to the electricity department, Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar said he would take up the issue with the chief minister.
"The ‘4 arm lights' installed by the tourism and other departments in the State have not been handed over to the electricity department as yet, due to which the electricity department is unable to maintain these lights. I will take up this issue with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and request him to direct the tourism and other departments to hand over the possession of these ‘4 arms lights' to the electricity department," he said.
Speaking further at the meeting in Saligao, Madkaikar said 1.66 lakh LED bulbs have so far been installed in the State, while the remaining 20,000 bulbs would be installed shortly.
"I have directed electricity department staff to attend to the problems of LED bulbs installed on electrical poles and prepare estimates for the replacement of old LT lines," said Madkaikar.
"The problem of branches touching overhead electricity wires is being faced all over Goa. Permission from the forest department and property owners concerned need to be taken as per the law in existence."
"The State government is planning to frame a new law permitting the electricity department to cut branches of trees, wherever required." Madkaikar also informed that 50 electricity poles would be given to all 40 MLAs, so that they can replace old electricity poles in their constituencies. "The panchayat will have to bear the cost of extension of the street lines in its jurisdiction," he said.
