Govt to spend Rs 40.74 crore on Basilica under central scheme

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday said the State government would develop the Basilica of Bom Jesus Project under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) Scheme, adding that around Rs 40.74 crore would be spent on this project.

“Beside this, the development of the Aguada Digital Museum, Rua De Ourem Convention Centre, Dona Paula Jetty are some projects in the pipeline,” he said.

“This year, the State government is proposing to bring in an integrated beach management policy. This policy will include lifeguard, cleaning, safety, surveillance and illumination. Everything will be part of one policy,” said Khaunte.

The minister informed that the tourism department has plans to ensure that all festivals like Sunburn, Iron Man, RFC, will be given permission at one point.

Stating that a new cable-car facility would be set up between Dona Paula and MPT, Khaunte said co-working spaces would be created at Benaulim, Morjim and Miramar beaches with a tag of ‘Workation Goa’.

He also informed that the water sports policy and shack policy would be revisited.
