Hitting out at the government for not disbursing compensation under the Xetkari Aadhar Niddhi scheme for crop loss on time, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday demanded immediate sanction of financial approvals for agricultural schemes such as crop compensation, minimum support price, etc for the benefit of the farmers.
With farmers from Fatorda constituency suffering huge losses and the crop compensation not forthcoming from the government, Sardesai announced that We for Fatorda will compensate the farmers from his constituency immediately after carrying out the valuation.
The Fatorda MLA on Wednesday inspected the agriculture fields in the Chandrawado area of his constituency.
Asserting that Agriculture Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar should do justice to his job or hand over his portfolio to someone else, Sardesai said compensation will have no meaning for the farmers if it is not timely.
He accused the government and the agriculture minister of being more focused on conversions rather than giving a boost to farming.
He also hit out at the government for disbursing compensation to farmers in BJP ruled constituency while leaving other farmers high and dry.
Meanwhile, Sardesai has demanded a white paper on the controversial IIT land acquisition project and why the government was so adamant in bulldozing with the project.
“When an area admeasuring 10 lakh square meters, including forest land, is proposed to be acquired for the project, it is incumbent
upon the government to come out with a White paper,” he said.
“Power Minister Nilesh Cabral has come out with a white paper on the transmission line project even when there was no demand from any quarter,” he added.
