President of Quepem Citizens Committee Evangelisto Dcosta has urged the government to immediately cover the water drain near the culvert by the side of the main road at Quepem Police Station.
Dcosta informed that since the last one year he has been after the authorities and also the ex-MLA from Quepem Chandrakant Kavlekar for swift action on the matter in the interest of the safety of the citizens particularly the two-wheeler riders and the pedestrians but to no effect.
In an incident that took place on Friday, Dcosta complained of a cow which fell into the roadside drain and suffered minor injuries. The villagers had a tough time getting the cow removed from the drain, informed Dcosta.
The drain is touching the main road proceeding to Margao from Quepem and is barely noticeable due to overgrown bushes making its existence a risky affair.
Evangelisto urged the newly elected MLA from Quepem to take up the issue seriously and get the drain covered with a concrete slab to avoid vehicle riders from running into the drain.
