Govt woos industries to set up shop in State, doubles FAR

PANAJI

In order to give a major push to investment in the industrial sector, the State government has announced to double the floor area ratio (FAR) across the industrial estates thereby promoting vertical growth.

While the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told investors that this is the right time to invest in Goa, Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho spoke about providing more access to investors. Both were speaking while addressing the Invest Goa 2024 summit.

“This is the right time to invest in Goa. Come here and invest. Your (investors) success will be our success. Your journey will be our journey. We are partners in progress committed to your every step. We will provide all the helping hand,” Sawant said.

He said that the world doesn't look at Goa as a mere tourist destination but as an economic powerhouse waiting to be unleashed.

“Our government will transform Goa not just as a tourist paradise but as an example of economic growth and opportunities. But the heart of this transformation lies in the ease of doing business,” Sawant said highlighting some of the reforms undertaken by the government to unlock the State’s immense industrial potential.

He said that the Goa government is building the future, world class highways, port, airport and digital connectivity for growth of business and also partnering with leading academic institutions for skilled work force and innovative ideas.

Later addressing the press conference, Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho declared that the government will double the FAR in industrial areas for the vertical growth of industries. He said that the benefit will be extended not just to new industries but also to the existing setup looking for expansion.

"We look at an environmentally-friendly industry which will generate economic activity, which will generate income for industrialists so that they expand their company. We want industries that will provide employment to our local skilled workforce," he added.

The minister said that Goa wants industrialists to be partners in its growth.  “Goa is the only place where you can do business with pleasure. While doing business you can relax in the evening. You will feel like working more," he said.
