The Goa Public Service Commission through a Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) Jose Manuel Noronha, Chairman and Rajashekar IAS, Sanjit Rodrigues IAS as members has recommended the promotion of 51 officials to the position of Assistant Engineers and a further 10 officials to the position of Executive Engineers in the Electricity Department.
The Electricity Department has a sanctioned strength of 173 assistant engineers of which 48 are degree holders and the balance diploma holders. In the present lot of officials promoted are 22 degree holders and 29 diploma holders.
A proposal to fill up a number of vacant positions at the executive engineers level will be taken up shortly. The Electricity Department has been facing a shortage of degree engineers at the senior level for many years now and positions of additional chief engineer and chief engineer are vacant for a long time now and are being held by officials either on deputation or short-term contract basis.
With these promotions recommended on Thursday and with the commission promoting superintending engineers recently, the vacancy of engineers at the higher level should normalise within a couple of years.
The Commission on Thursday also recommended for promotion of S M Prabhudesai and V U Borkar to the senior administrative grade of Goa Police service at the DPC chaired by Jose Manuel Noronha along with Jaspal Singh, IPS, DGP, Dr V Candavelou, IAS and M R M Rao, IAS as members.
The police service rules 2022 were recently amended to create the senior administrative grade and these are the first police officials to hold these positions after the amendments. Meanwhile, the commission also approved the proposal by the government to relax the number of years required for qualifying service to enable the promotion of nine DySPs to the position of Superintendent of Police.
