MARGAO
In an interesting development, members of Yuv Sanjivani have called upon Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar to issue permission to install the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Margao near the Municipal building.
Led by BJP leader Sharmad Raiturkar, the delegation has suggested two locations to install Shivaji’s statue: one at the traffic island on the North-East corner of the Margao Municipal Council building, and the other at the space opposite Kohinoor Opticians where, presently, a police booth sponsored by the Gold Dealers Association is placed.
Sharmad explained to the MMC Chief that Yuv Sanjivani had submitted a letter to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant during his visit to the Dindi Festival in Margao, regarding the installation of a grand statue of the great king and the inspiration of millions of Indians, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in Margao. “The CM had expressed his joy and his willingness to support. The robust statue will keep reminding the citizens of Margao about the need for a feeling of national pride, patriotism, nationalism, and brotherhood within every citizen, irrespective of caste and religion,” he said.
He added: “Margao, also known as ‘Mathagram’, is looked upon as the cultural capital of Goa. The city, which had a rich cultural heritage and a glorious history, is slowly becoming a hub of migrants and losing its self-esteem.”
Sharmad said both the locations suggested for the installation of Shivaji’s statue will neither block the smooth movement of traffic nor pose any visual hindrance to the same.
The MMC Chairperson reminded the delegation that the Margao Municipal Council has recently unveiled the statue of Shivaji Maharaj in the august Municipal Hall. He assured the delegation that the request from Yuv Sanjivani will be studied before it is placed before the Council.
