GSIDC to work on Paikul bridge: CM

MAPUSA

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said work on the new Paikul bridge in Sattari has been sanctioned through the Goa State Infrastructure Development (GSIDC) and the entire process is expected to be completed within 45 days.

“The GSIDC will take up the construction of the Paikul bridge at an estimated cost of Rs 12.5 crore,” Sawant said.

He said work on the bridge will be completed within one year.

In the meantime, he said, temporary measures have been taken to make sure that affected people can use alternate routes to come on to the mainland.

He said the water resources department has also been tasked with the job to make some arrangements so that two-wheeler riders could move across the stream.

He further said the washing away of the bridge due to recent floods has affected the water pipeline in the area.

“Work to restore water supply has been taken up on top priority and is expected to be complete before Chaturthi,” the CM said.

The Paikul bridge which connects several interior villages to the mainland collapsed due to the recent floods, putting the villagers in great inconvenience.
