Revolutionary Goans (RG) Chief Manoj Parab and St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar on Wednesday evening claimed the Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) management had agreed to extend the date of interviews and put Konkani language as a clause, while also assuring to train students at ITI to help them gain employment in GSL.
Parab and Borkar were speaking to reporters after interacting with the GSL management and submitting a memorandum on the employment issue.
“We had shown the GSL how an RTI showed that 30 percent of Goans had been employed among the 686 jobs in GSL since 2015. Other defence ministry shipyards across the country have a clause of knowing the state language or the state domicile to apply for jobs and they preferred locals, but this has not happened in GSL though they had used our land and resources,” said Parab.
“The GSL has now assured to extend the dates for the recent advertisement of around 200 posts and also make it mandatory for Konkani language. They have also assured to train students for GSL interviews at ITI, polytechnic and engineering and other technical colleges in Goa and explain the recruitment process to students.”
“We will also carry out awareness programmes and release videos on new job recruitments and how to apply for these jobs,” Parab added.
