Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) has decided to hold protests across the State to condemn the decision of the State government to in-principle not oppose Karnataka's demand for drinking water from River Mhadei. GSM has also condemned the letter sent by Parrikar to Karnataka BJP President B S Yeddyurappa over holding bilateral talks with Karnataka over the issue.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, GSM President Anand Shirodkar said, "The letter sent by Parrikar for bilateral talks on sharing Mhadei water indicates that as usual he has taken a U-turn once again. Parrikar should withdraw this letter immediately and apologise to the people of Goa."
"The meeting convened by BJP National President Amit Shah with Parrikar and Yeddyurappa has created lot of pressure on Parrikar because of which he has changed his stand on Mhadei. This is a political move Parrikar has done based on the instructions of his high command for winning Karnataka assembly elections," stated Shirodkar.
"The protests including morchas at local level will begin on December 27 at Bicholim and Sanguem. Protests at Margao and Mapusa will be held on December 28 followed by protests at Ponda. However if nothing happens, we will hold a huge morcha at the state level," he said.
Meanwhile Shirodkar has stated that GSM will strengthen its base across the State. The party had a two-day workshop at Kasarpal on December 23 and 24.
"Nearly 40 office bearers from North Goa were present for the meeting. As a political party we have completed nearly 14 months and now we want to set up all our cells like IT and RTI, among others,"
he said.
