MARGAO
The congested Station Road, Margao, is fast turning into a fruit vending street, thanks to Margao Municipal Council, which has turned a blind eye to the activities on the busy road.
If one takes a walk or a ride down the station road in the afternoons and late evenings, one would come across vendors swarming on the busy road with fruits and vegetables.
Hawkers selling fruits on mobile carts right under the nose of the municipal authorities has become a permanent feature. And for reasons best known to the municipal and police authorities, the whip is yet to be cracked against the illegal vendors, whose activity is causing traffic obstruction and snarls on the busy road.
Pleas made by the Gandhi Market Vendors Association to crack a whip against the illegal vending seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
When the media drew attention of the MMC CO Siddivinayak Naik to shed light on the failure to act in the matter, he promised action.
