GSPCB officials fail to turn up for inspection of river Sal near Salpem

MARGAO
The planned inspection of the source of pollution of the river Sal near the Salpem lake could not take place on Friday after the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) team failed to turn up at the site.

Members of the Navelim panchayat as well as local NGOs were anxiously waiting for the GSPCB team to conduct the inspection of sources of pollution of the river Sal at the lake. To their shock and surprise, the GSPCB team did not turn up for the inspection nor did the agency inform the stakeholders over the cancellation of the inspection.

Navelim villager and petitioner in the PIL before the High Court Antonio Alvares lamented that the GSPCB did not have the courtesy to inform the stakeholders that the proposed inspection will not take place as scheduled on Friday.
