Three of Goa's higher educational institutions and the Goa University scored well in their respective categories in the rankings for 2022 released by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Ranking 2022 listed the Goa Institute of Management (GIM) at the 36th rank among B-Schools.
Goa College of Pharmacy and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa also found a place in the top 100 in their respective categories.
While NIT was ranked 88th among engineering colleges, the Goa College of Pharmacy was placed at 55 among pharmacy colleges of the country.
Among Universities, Goa University was featured in the 151 to 200 band in the overall ranking and in the 101 to 150 band among Universities.
Not one institute from Goa, however, figured in the top 100 of overall rankings across categories.
Under NIRF, institutes are ranked on teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity and peer perception.
Ponda Education Society's Shri Ravi S Naik College of Arts & Science is placed in the 101 to 150 band among colleges while Dempo Charities Trust's Dhempe College of Arts & Science figures in the 151 to 200 ranking band.
NIRF India Ranking 2022 was announced for 11 categories. This includes overall, university, management, college, pharmacy, medical, engineering, architecture, ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements), law and research institutions.
Ranks are assigned based on the total sum of marks assigned for each of these five broad groups of parameters.
The best medical college in India -- like in the previous years’ -- is All India Institute of Medical Science in Delhi, followed by Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh.
In 2021 too, IIT-Madras retained its number one position in the overall educational institutes and engineering categories. The institute also bagged the second position in the ‘research’ category that was newly introduced last year.
This year, there is an increase in the number of colleges which have applied for the ranking. A total of 7254 higher educational institutes from across India have participated in NIRF 2022, a rise from 6272 last year.
The number of unique applicants to India Rankings has increased from 2,426 in 2016 to 4,030 in 2021 whereas the total number of applications for rankings in various categories has increased from 3,565 in 2016, to 6,272 in 2021.
This marks a total increase of 1604 (66% increase) in unique institutions and 2707 (76% increase) in total applicants.
