PANAJI: Anti-Corruption Bureau on Thursday nabbed the executive engineer posted at the engineering and technical service division of Goa University, Amit Srivastava, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a housekeeping contractor.
In his complaint submitted before the ACB, the housekeeping contractor Gopi Peket said that Srivastava has made an illegal demand of bribe from Hema Sundar Reddy, owner of Panorama Enterprises housekeeping agency.
Panorama had bagged the tender of the housekeeping work of Goa University campus buildings for an amount of Rs 50,00,584 per annum in July, 2017.
According to the complainant, the bribe amount demanded was five per cent of the monthly bill amount submitted by the housekeeping agency.
Initially, the housekeeping contractor paid Rs 20,000 to the accused for some two to three months. However, he discontinued the payment thereafter. Following this, Srivastava began to create hurdles for the houseekping agency and served a show cause notice to the contractor. Owing to continued harassment by Shrivastava, the owner of the agency had agreed to pay a ‘one-time’ bribe amount of Rs 50,000 followed by a fixed amount of Rs 25,000 per month.
Upon receiving the complaint, ACB laid a trap and the accused Shrivastava was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs 50,000 from the complainant Peket near the main gate of Ocean Park Residential Complex, Dona Paula.
The case is being investigated further by ACB Police Inspector Francisco Corte under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (ACB) Priyanka Kashyap.
