The attempt as foiled by an alert security guard, who put up a courageous fight and following a violent scuffle, the accused fled from the spot, leaving the guard grievously wounded.
The entire scuffle has been captured by the CCTV camera fitted inside the ATM booth. Panaji Police are attempting to locate the accused, based on the clear CCTV camera footage secured from the bank management.
In his complaint at the Panaji police station, the brave security guard Ranu Singh (27) of SISPL Security, a native of Madhya Pradesh, has stated that on intervening night of October 26 and 27 between 1.05 am and 1.30 am, two unknown accused attempted to rob the Cash Deposit Machine and ATM units of Bank of Maharashtra located opposite the Government Printing Press, near the Police Headquarters in Panaji.
While one of the hooded men stood guard outside the ATM centre, the other man repeatedly assaulted the security guard with a hammer. However, the plucky security guard put up a fight and succeeded in snatching away the hammer from the assailant. Following this the man fled away.
Panaji Police have secured this footage of the CCTV camera footage from the bank management. An offence has been registered against the two unknown accused under Section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 307(attempt to murder), 511 read with 34 (common intention) of IPC.
