Gundu’s visit: Will Congress leadership row be settled?

MARGAO

Will AICC in-charge Goa desk Dinesh Gundu Rao bring in some news to Congressmen on the leadership tangle when he descends on the state on his three-day visit beginning Wednesday.

While GPCC Vice-president M K Sheikh said the AICC in-charge will have interactive sessions with the various block committees during the three-day visit, Congress leaders demanding a change in GPCC leadership wondered whether any purpose will be served by Gundu’s visit when the leadership question remains unresolved till date.

In fact, a Congress leader rooting for a change in

GPCC leadership said the party high command should first address the leadership issue, saying other issues, including strengthening and

building the party from the grassroots, will fall in place automatically.

“I feel that interactions will not bring in the desired results unless the party high command addresses the core leadership issue. Postponing the crucial issue indefinitely will not help the party in the long run,” the leader warned.

Another leader pointed out that the high command should not keep the state leaders and the party rank and file guessing on the leadership issue. “If the high command is in favour of maintaining status quo on leadership, it should say so without any further delay. Keeping the party rank and file guessing for days and months will do more harm than good for the party,” the leader said.

Meanwhile, M K Sheik said the AICC in-charge will visit Sanguem and hold interactions with the Congress functionaries at Gurukul Hall, near police station, Sanguem at 11 am on Thursday. On the same day, he will visit Curchorem and hold interactions at block office at 5 pm and will later meet Quepem Block at Mallikarjun Hall, Balli, at 6.30 pm.

Sheikh said the AICC in-charge and other observers will visit Canacona block on August 6 and will interact with the workers at Shristhal Panchayat Hall at 11 am. Later in the day, they will meet workers of Velim Block at Loyola Furtado Library Hall, Chinchinim, at 4 pm and Cuncolim Block at Maddicotto Multipurpose Hall, Cuncolim, at 5.30 pm.
