MoI controversy reverberates in South Goa’s heartland
Come clear on issue, GVP legislators tell govt

GVP supremo Mickky Pacheco went to the extent of accusing the BJP leadership for fooling the people of Goa, saying the BJP leaders appear to be doing a fine balancing act between those opposing and supporting grants for English schools.
“This government is fooling the people of Goa on the issue. First, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar came out with a statement that the government should not pass the MoI Bill in the Legislative Assembly, but favoured continuance of grants to English schools. And, now the Environment Minister Arlekar calls for a stop to the grants. This only goes to show that the BJP and the government are only fooling the people. I feel that the government will maintain this stand till the 2017 Assembly election to keep both the sections in good humour,” Mickky said, while demanding that the government give grants to all English schools and not restrict the financial assistance only to a few schools.
GVP Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva demanded that Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar should come clear on the government’s stand on the MoI issue.
“Arlekar’s statement has raised doubts and suspicions on the government’s stand vis-a-vis the MoI issue, and the Chief Minister should clear the government’s stand,” Caitu asserted.
Giving an added dimension to the MoI controversy, the Benaulim legislator further pointed out that if the government does not want to give grants for English medium schools then it should give grants to Konkani in Romi script instead of Konkani schools in Devnagiri script.
