MARGAO
With Goa receiving its share of Rs 293 crore under the 15th Finance Commission to implement the Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs) across the 191 Panchayat bodies, social activists on Saturday have called for streamlining of the entire Panchayati Raj system, right from the monitoring mechanism headed by the Chief Secretary to the training of Panchayat Secretaries and the grass-root elected representatives to take the process to the logical conclusion.
An awareness program “Let’s learn GPDF for Goa” organised by Goyche Fudle Pilge Khatir (GYPK) at the Clergy Home, Margao on Saturday deliberated in detail the GPDPs and how the various authorities should go about implementing the plan and utilize the funds sanctioned to the Panchayat bodies in Goa under the 15th Commission.
The social activists and experts have pointed out that every department is part of the planning process and are responsible to enforce the GPDPs at the grass roots. They have expressed their worry and concern that the GPDP may achieve the intended objective if the concerned departments do not play their roles.
