At a time when Sattari taluka has been grappling with the Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) or monkey fever, local health officials have confirmed that a toddler from Hirvem in Sattari taluka was infected with the H1N1 (Swine flu) disease.
“One case of H1N1 has been reported at Community Health Centre in Valpoi. A 2-year-old baby was infected with H1N1, the first such case in Sattari. However, the baby was treated at CHC and is fully cured,” a CHC source told The Goan.
Sources, however, declined to divulge the exact area where the toddler had contracted the disease, as disclosure of the toddler's residence would lead to panic in the affected area.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza has instructed health officials to form a state-level monitoring committee, including top officials from health, veterinary and forest department, to carry out various awareness and precautionary measures for KFD in all affected villages of Sattari taluka.
