PORVORIM
Having served as Porvorim’s Independent MLA for two terms, Rohan Khaunte’s move to join the BJP paid rich political dividends for him and the party, after he demolished the opposition and established himself as the undisputed leader in Porvorim constituency.
Khaunte polled a massive 11,714 plus votes, while his nearest rival TMC candidate Sandeep Vazarkar could only secure 3,764 votes, securing him the largest winning margin in his three terms.
During the 2017 elections, Khaunte had won by a margin of over 4,200 votes and this time, he extended his winning margin to a sizeable 7,950 votes.
While Congress candidate Vikas Prabhudessai and TMC candidate Sandeep Vazarkar had relied on state leaders during the campaign, Khaunte established personal connect with voters in their houses along with panch members of three village panchayats of Socorro, Salvador do Mundo and Penha da Franca.
Weak candidates fielded by the Congress, AAP and NCP only made the victory easier for Khaunte.
Later speaking to media persons, Khaunte attributed his success to efforts by panch members of all three panchayats.
“I am happy that people approved my decision to join the BJP. I have joined the BJP to bring a change in Porvorim constituency and to make it an ideal constituency,” said Khaunte.
