The Bombay High Court at Goa has dismissed the anticipatory bail application filed by Wilson Godinho, the brother of cabinet minister Mauvin Godinho, who is booked by the Old Goa Police for having allegedly abetted the suicide of Prakash Naik, the panch of Merces village.

After hearing the matter over the course of several weeks, the High Court dismissed Godinho’s petition.

Godinho whose name figures in the alleged suicide note that Naik posted on WhatsApp before allegedly taking his own life, is seeking protection from arrest.

Godinho in his arguments before the trial court claimed that besides the alleged suicide note there was nothing to indicate that he was responsible for Naik taking his own life, while also promising to cooperate with the investigation.

The Goa Police had booked Wilson after the family of Prakash Naik, who allegedly committed suicide with his own licenced firearm, lodged an official complaint, citing a ‘suicide note’ that Naik left behind naming the duo.

Prakash Naik, a former sarpanch and until his death was member of Merces, was rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital where he was declared as ‘brought dead’ in a case of suspected suicide.

A screen shot of his alleged suicide note began circulating on social media with Naik in the note blaming two persons including the brother of a current minister in the BJP led government as being responsible for his death owing to the ‘tremendous pressure’.
