Stating that the rope-way project to transport passengers between Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) and Dona Paula would boost tourism in the State, Urban Development Minister Milind Naik has said the project would also reduce traffic congestion.
Speaking to reporters after accompanying Chief Minister Pramod Sawant during an inspection of various projects in Mormugao constituency, Naik said the Ropeway project, which was announced by Union Minister of State for Shipping Mansukh Mandaviya, was a good initiative.
“The cruise terminal at MPT will be enhanced using the same infrastructure and we were also shown detailed presentation on a ropeway facility which could boost tourism.”
“Under the Sagarmala project, if the public and tourists start using waterways to move around, it will drastically reduce the load on roads and this is the main intention. It is a great initiative and we have also seen the presentation. If this project materialises, it will be great for the State as well “ said Naik.
The minister said Sawant had come to Mormugao to inspect various projects which are in progress in Mormugao constituency.
“The major issue was that of connectivity to Port Perth 9, road and flyover project, which starts from Varunapuri to MPT. The Chief Minister was happy with the new plant set up to clear legacy waste and has said that similar plants could be set up elsewhere in Goa to treat legacy waste,” said Naik.
