Karekar, on March 23, 2015 filed a complaint at Panaji police station alleging that unknown persons damaged the window glass of her bedroom by throwing stones from outside, thereby causing a loss to the tune of Rs 2,000.
On the same day, another resident of the neighbourhood, Sunita Shirodkar, filed a complaint at Panaji police station against Karekar alleging that she had called her minor son at her residence through the watchman, and had abused him with filthy language while also threatening him with dire consequences. The child’s mother also alleged that Karekar compelled her son to pay Rs 2,000.
In his statement, the boy recounted that the window of Karekar’s apartment was damaged on March 20, 2015 when he was playing with his friends and was throwing stones at a tamarind tree. He said that the watchman called him to Karekar’s residence. He further stated that Karekar screamed at him on the afternoon of March 22 and threatened to take him and his mother to the police station if the damages were not paid for. Following this, he had gone home, collected Rs 2,000 from his pocket money in the absence of his mother and had handed it over to Karekar. Karekar later informed his mother that he had given her the money, the boy said.
However, the watchman’s statement did not corroborate this alleged chain of events.
HC noted that Shirodkar’s complaint contained stray references to threats and abuses without offering details.
“Therefore, there is no material on record to substantiate the charges,” reads the judgment by HC bench.
